    Now retired, Carrie Buchanan was a journalist for 15 years in Canada before earning her doctorate in 2010. She joined the faculty of the Tim Russert Department of Communication at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio, where she taught journalism and mass communication. Major research areas: local and hyperlocal news, sense of place, contingent faculty. Education: A.B. Bryn Mawr College, Pennsylvania; M.J.
